Community Missionary Baptist Church was founded on January 3, 1973, by Deacon Evander Derico Sr. and Missionary Burnice Derico. The first church started in a repurposed gas station under the leadership of Reverend McGriff. About a year later, Rev. McGriff relocated to Alabama and the Lord called Deacon Evander Derico Sr. to feed his sheep. Rev. Derico Sr. preached his first sermon in 1974, later was ordained and became the second pastor of Community Missionary Baptist Church. The Lord continued to bless our church and experienced spiritual and numerical growth under his leadership. In 1988, Rev. Derico Sr. saw the need for a larger building and in 1991 we moved into our new building. The church was later named Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church of Pompano, Inc. On October 28, 2001, our pastor Reverend Evander Derico Sr. retired from being the pastor of Greater Community Missionary Baptist Church of Pompano, Inc., but not from preaching. We now have a new pastor and leader, Reverend Dr. Evander Derico Jr. Greater Community continues to thrive under his leadership. The church has grown into a vibrant community fixture with Believers who are Committed to Serve God by Serving the Community.
